Panels in place of ductwork?

by

Many of you may recall that I was an investor in a fabrication company that manufactured Thermaduct products.

One thing I never knew before having an adjoining shop is how many stiffeners went into a section of duct.

(Here’s where all the contractors say ‘duh, Tom.’ Everyone knows that.)

Take it easy, contractor; maybe the engineers aren’t all aware. They don’t study SMACNA books.

Yes, duct fabricators use aerodynamic round steel conduits, but there’s quite a bit of pressure drop with that many stiffeners in the air stream.

Who accounts for that in duct design? That’s right, nobody.

Maybe that’s why engineers need so much fluff in their system pressure calcs.

Now, if you use a panelized system like that offered by Price Industries, the stiffeners can be reduced or eliminated. Some of the stiffeners can be incorporated into the wall, so they are completely concealed!

Really, a great idea for large ducting systems.

You can learn more about it in class!
