One thing about our industry.
No one cares much about ‘better’.
If there isn’t a problem to solve, no one has time.
If there IS a problem to solve, we’re all looking for a solution.
When Air Flow introduced Price’s chilled beams to the market in 2010, the point was ‘better’. More energy efficient, smaller ductwork, no terminal reheat, etc. Better.
But what was the problem it solved? And who bought in? Almost no one. AEI uses beams regularly. No one else in Wisconsin does.
What’s different now?
With electrification looming in our future, beams will surge back.
And this time, they will be a solution, and not just better.
A solution to the limits on the water temperature your heat pump can produce.
A solution for more stringent energy codes.
A solution that, for practical purposes, has been streamlined over the past 15 years. There’s a test standard and competition.
Even if you’re not currently designing an all-electric building in the Upper Midwest, you could be soon enough.
Problem? Yes!
