If you build outside air plenums in Wisconsin, and in a word… Yes.
The image above shows a typical 4” thick acoustic panel, often used for outside air plenums. Some of them are made by contractors, some of them are factory fabricated.
Nothing crazy for interior conditions either.
Where do the panels fail? You got it, at the stiffeners.
Is this an issue? Yes, I’d say standing water is an issue. Granted, it’s on the outside of the plenum, but water has this knack of causing problems.
One solution is to line the cold side of the plenum with insulation. That hardly seems like a permanent solution, but then again, we wrap exterior ductwork all the time.
Price is now completing testing for their own thermally broken panel design.
More expensive, yes. But a permanent solution? Also yes.
