Just Make it Sparkproof

by

It comes up regularly: the need for a fan to be ‘sparkproof’.

‘Why Sparkproof’ has a hazard associated with it, usually a gas that has explosion potential, and the fan needs to be constructed to prevent a spark.

‘How Sparkproof’ isn’t always clear. A note on the plan that a fan should be sparkproof leaves a lot to be desired for clarity.

Loren Cook’s sparkproof guide is an excellent resource. Not only does it explain the sparkproof definitions, but it also clearly depicts how to build a fan in such a way to make it AMCA A, B, or C.

Case in point, the SQI square inline fan shown above can be made sparkproof, but the SQN cannot.

Don’t know why? That’s what the brochure is for.

Have a project that requires sparkproof fans? We’d like to hear about it.
